Bartow County, GA (May 19, 2024)- A fatal Collision on I-75 in Bartow County unfolded, where a multi-vehicle collision resulted in a temporary shutdown of the southbound lanes.
The incident occurred just before Red Top Mountain Road, causing significant traffic congestion on both sides of the highway. The Georgia Department of Transportation initially projected the closure to last the entire night, but the roadway was eventually reopened shortly after 10 p.m.

One witness recounted to FOX 5 the harrowing moments when the crash unfolded.
She observed cars flipping in the northbound lanes while her husband drove.
A significant moment she recalled was a big rig making a desperate swerve to avoid the chaos, and an SUV that crossed the median into the southbound lanes, bypassing the safety cables at high speed.
The aftermath was devastating. The SUV was extensively damaged, with almost completely shattered windshields, a virtually non-existent front, missing doors, and a severely compressed structure.
Fluid leaked from the vehicle, which was smoking, adding to the already dire situation. Surrounding vehicles also suffered considerable damage.
Amid the chaos, the witness, a mother, felt an immediate urge to help.
She and her husband ensured their children’s safety before assisting in rescuing any visible or audible victims from the wreckage.
Driven by a deep sense of duty, she expressed her determination to aid those trapped, regardless of their survival odds.
Tragically, Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton confirmed the loss of four lives in the accident: three adults and a 15-year-old.
The witness was moved to tears by the sight of other bystanders who, rather than helping, appeared to be recording the incident.
