ATLANTA, GA (May 28, 2024) — Atlanta Police are actively searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run on the I-85/I-75 connector that occurred Sunday night.
The incident took place around 11:50 p.m. when officers responded to a car accident on I-85 northbound near 17th Street.
Upon arrival, they discovered the driver of a Kia Optima critically injured. The driver, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner as 27-year-old Abari J. Meade, was transported to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
Initial investigations revealed that the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling at the I-75/I-85 northbound split when they dangerously cut across the gore area and merged onto I-85. In doing so, the Chevrolet Suburban struck the parked Kia Optima on the right shoulder.
The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban fled the scene immediately after the collision, prompting a police search for the suspect. Authorities are still investigating to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
