ATLANTA — Two individuals tragically lost their lives, and a 1-year-old child sustained critical injuries following a devastating head-on collision last Friday, as reported by Rome Police.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on September 6. An officer on patrol observed a black Dodge Charger speeding at an “extremely high rate” on Riverside Parkway. Despite the officer’s efforts to catch up, the Charger eluded them. The officer promptly alerted additional units to be on the lookout.
Eventually, another officer, traveling on Turner McCall Boulevard, spotted the speeding Charger. After pursuing the vehicle, the officer arrived at the scene of a catastrophic head-on collision involving the Charger and a Honda Accord.
The collision resulted in the deaths of two individuals in the Honda Accord. The victims have been identified as 23-year-old Kadrian Harris and 23-year-old Malik Henderson. Tragically, the 1-year-old infant in the Accord was critically injured and remains in serious condition. In stark contrast, those in the Dodge Charger only sustained minor injuries.
Following the collision, officers arrested the Charger’s driver, Omar Garcia. Garcia faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of serious injury by vehicle, DUI, driving without a license, fleeing/attempting to elude, reckless driving, and driving too fast for conditions. He has been booked into the Floyd County Jail, where he will await further legal proceedings.
